About me

John Craig aka The Fake Tattooist

For the past eight years, I’ve dedicated myself to the art of tattooing, learning from some of the best artists in the world. My focus has been on portraits - capturing not just a face, but the soul behind it. I’ve spent countless hours studying and researching human expressions, bone structure, and skin texture to give each piece the life and depth it deserves. I’ve tested countless techniques, refined my style, and now I’m ready to share what I’ve learned with others. I started at the very bottom - long hours, tough days, and plenty of mistakes. But my passion for portraits kept me moving forward. A portrait is more than ink; it’s a story etched into skin. From the shine in an eye to the fine lines that mark a life well-lived, every detail matters. Seeing a client’s reaction when their portrait is complete is the moment I live for - it reminds me exactly why I do this work.

My work

In my portfolio, you'll find a collection of striking portrait tattoos that highlight the intricate details and artistry of black and grey ink. Alongside the fresh designs, I've included healed photos to showcase the importance of contrast in these tattoos. This contrast not only enhances the visual impact but also ensures that the tattoos age beautifully over the years. With proper care, you'll see how these pieces maintain their vibrancy and depth, standing the test of time as true works of art on skin.

Participants Feedback

" From the moment I arrived, everyone made me feel welcome. Instructions were clear, and I was encouraged to take notes and videos, which proved invaluable. I received great advice on choosing equipment, from cameras to tattoo machines, and the spotless, professional studio was beautifully set up. The tutorial improved my Procreate design process, deepened my understanding of stencils, and sharpened my eye for strong reference photos. Watching John tattoo on day two was inspiring, and his balanced guidance on day three helped me tattoo my own portrait with confidence. I gained technical skills I can apply to future work and am thrilled with my result. The experience was incredibly beneficial."
